This policy explains how to delete your SkyTribe account and what happens to your data when you do. For full details on how we process your data, see our Privacy Policy.
You can delete your account in two ways:
Either way, your account is deactivated immediately and your published content is anonymised after a short grace period — so you have a chance to change your mind. We process deletions without undue delay and within the period your local law requires.
Parents or guardians of users aged 16–17 may request deletion on their behalf.
Account information you provided to us (your profile, follows, push notification tokens, authentication credentials, device registrations, session data, and notifications you've received) is permanently removed.
The content you published to the community — strip reports, photos, comments, and rogers — is anonymised rather than deleted. Your name is replaced with "Former Member," your profile photo is removed from that content, and the content remains as part of SkyTribe's community aviation database. Other pilots rely on this content for runway condition history, which is why we don't simply delete it. After anonymisation, it can no longer reasonably be linked back to you.
In limited cases we may retain some identifiable data beyond anonymisation — where the law requires it, where there's an active legal proceeding, or where we need to keep records of serious safety violations such as posting false runway information. We keep only the minimum we need, for the minimum period needed.
Data held by our service providers (such as error monitoring at Sentry or analytics at Firebase) expires under their own retention schedules.
Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once it's complete, we can't restore your account or your personal data. Published content that has been anonymised will stay on the platform as part of the community aviation database, but will no longer be linked to you.
If you want to exercise other privacy rights (access, portability, correction), or delete specific posts before closing your account, write to privacy@skytribeapp.com first.
Account deletion fulfils your right to erasure under the Namibia Data Protection Bill, the GDPR, POPIA, and equivalent laws. Anonymised content is no longer personal data under these frameworks and so falls outside the scope of the right to erasure.
